ECC referendum cannot be shoved aside for a "better time" vote "yes" on April 7
"Even in times of economic stress, certain issues must remain at the forefront of concern. They cannot--and should not-- be shoved aside for a "better time." ECC's referendum is just such an issue. This outstanding college provides the quality and affordable education that paves the way for so many young students and adults of all ages. Your "yes" vote positively impacts the quality of life in your community. Please consider carefully and vote "yes" on April 7."

We cannot afford not to vote YES!
“As an ECC Alum and Leadership Scholar I know the importance of our Community College. This referendum is not only important to the students and their capacity to learn, it is also important to our community. This referendum will create 4000 newjobs. In this economy, we cannot afford not to vote YES!”

Support the future of the college and our community
“I believe in ECC. I urge everyone to support the future of the college and our community. We must lay the foundation now to be outstanding in the future. Please give the referendum full consideration.”

Enhance the support that ECC provides to the community
“Dr. Sam and Dr. Shirley before him have been good stewards of our money and have led an organization of which the community can be proud. OTTO has hired many ECC graduates and all have been well prepared. This referendum will enhance the support that ECC provides to the community and appears to be well thought.”

Invest locally. Benefit locally.
“We can do what Washington can only promise: stimulate the local economy, create jobs, train healthcare professionals and first responders.
Elgin Community College is a proven source of quality, affordable education. ECC provides jobs in the community, including jobs that meet our most pressing needs in healthcare and public safety. More are needed. People are waiting.
There’s no Washington bailout coming for this. But for a couple of bucks a month, we can ensure our local college will equip us to keep us working, keep us safe and keep us healthy. And our money stays right here at home, where we know it is put to good use. And now more than ever, it just makes sense.
If voters say “Yes” to the ECC referendum, we can be sure we’ll get the education and training to keep us supplied with healthcare professionals, public safety personnel and countless other careers for decades to come.
Invest locally. Benefit locally. I will be voting “Yes” on the Elgin Community College referendum and strongly recommend that you to do the same.”

Support ECC bond referendum
"I encourage the voters of Elgin Community College District 509 to vote "yes" to the bond request on the April 7 ballot.
A "yes" vote will bring 4,000 new jobs to local workers, double the classroom space for health careers training and double the number of students trained for jobs in public safety each year.
Sixty percent of the nation's new registered nurses receive training through community colleges, and 80 percent of police, 86 percent of fire fighters and 84 percent of paramedics receive their credentials at community colleges. This is good for the community.
For every $1 invested in Elgin Community College, the local economy gets $3 back. ECC would employ local businesses and workers in each phase of campus improvements, resulting in an infusion of millions of dollars into our local economy.
ECC provides higher education at an affordable price. We need this education for jobs today and a better tomorrow."
Floyd Brown, Elgin
'Yes' on ECC vote will create jobs, training
"Every day, ECC plays a critical role in our community by enriching residents' lives through learning experiences and by providing training opportunities that benefit employees and employers.
As we move to the next page in our area's history, we can see expanded health care needs -- especially for baby boomers; expanded public safety needs -- especially due to retirements and growth in our region; expanded needs for college-level library services, especially since the library is incredibly small relative to the current enrollment's needs.
Think about what less than $2 a month for the owner of a $200,000 home will create:
• 4,000 local jobs through proposed ECC expansion.
• $530 million into our local economy using local business/labor for ECC projects.
A "yes" vote April 7 will be "yes" to jobs and to the quality of life that we need."
Jeanette Mihalec, Elgin
