GET THE FACTS
A good job makes all the difference in today’s economy – and Elgin Community College is on the frontline of providing the training necessary to land that job.
With your support on April 7th, Elgin Community College will be able to issue bonds to fund critical college expansions that will move students off waiting listing and into high quality employment that serves our communities.
When you vote “yes” for ECC, you say yes to:
PROTECTING OUR ECONOMY
- 4,000 local jobs to be created through proposed ECC expansion.
- $530 million into our local economy through use of local business and labor for ECC projects.
- No referendum dollars will be used for college operating expenses. This means that every dollar funding the referendum will be invested back into our local economy.
TRAINING OUR WORKFORCE
- 74 percent of area employers hired an ECC graduate in the last decade.
- 9 out of 10 community college graduates stay in Illinois after graduation and contribute to the economy.
- 1 in 3 high school seniors in the college’s district chooses ECC.
SERVING OUR COMMUNITIES
- More than 80 percent of police, fire fighters and paramedics receive their credentials at community colleges.
- ECC turns away more health careers applicants every semester than it is able to enroll because the demand for healthcare job training is so high.
- Double the classroom space for health careers training and double the number of students trained for jobs in public safety if the referendum passes.
In today's economy, none of us have an extra dollar to spare - which is why ECC will spend 100 percent of this funding on capital improvements, and not operating expenses. For the owner of a $200,000 home, that will mean $23 a year -- less than $2 a month -- for a return of 4,000 local jobs, a $530 million boost to the local economy, and training for the health care professionals and first responders that serve our communities.
Here’s how the question will be presented on the ballot:
Shall the Board of Trustees of Elgin Community College District No. 509, Counties of Kane, Cook, DuPage, McHenry and DeKalb and State of Illinois, be authorized to build and equip a Health Careers Center, a Library and a Regional Public Safety Training Facility, build, equip, alter, renovate and repair community college buildings, build and equip additions to community college buildings, purchase, improve and equip land for community college purposes, install technology and issue bonds of said Community College District to the amount of $178,000,000 for the purpose of paying the costs thereof?
